2022 was one of the toughest years for cryptocurrencies and digital assets; the industry has seen its ups and downs and some of its funniest moments since its inception. Via Twitter CroissantETH tried to review and represent some of these “absolutely unforgettable” moments.
A review of the best crypto memes
Last year, the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum, underwent a major overhaul. The cryptocurrency moved from a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus to a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus after completing “The Merge”.
The Ethereum community has also created some of the funniest and most memorable memes of 2022. CroissantETH recalled the moment the inventor of Ethereum gained attention with the following image.
This image has been spun into countless memes, discussions, and even price speculation. The pseudonymous user said of this unforgettable crypto moment:
Vitalik Buterin took a photo with someone, which revealed something absolutely huge. Ethereum has pumped quite a bit since this was released.
Buterin is often the subject of “memetization” throughout the year and 2022 was no exception. In addition to his massive reveal, the inventor of Ethereum makes headlines for his poor skills at setting up a microphone. This incident is one of many times he struggles with sound.
The Ropsten Ethereum merger was… uneventful to say the least.

The number one cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Bitcoin, and its community also created some of the funniest moments of 2022. This community is often distinguished by its passion and commitment to the original cryptocurrency.
As BTC trended lower, users viralized the following interview with Michael Saylor, the former CEO of software firm MicroStrategy. At the height of the bull run, Saylor advised all BTC investors, forever elevating the words “there is no second best” to the Crypto Hall of Fame:
Another iconic moment for cryptocurrencies spawned a meme for generations to come.

Regulators and lawmakers around the world have starred in several memes and funniest moments in 2022. CroissantETH noted US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) speech, Gary Gensler, before Congress.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, a public opponent of cryptocurrencies, has called for more clarity on regulations for the nascent asset class. The senator has paid more attention to the industry since 2020, sending letters to Gensler and others to provide their views on digital assets.
During the SEC Chairman’s speech to Congress, Warren famously called for a fix for the high fees users were paying on the Ethereum blockchain. The interaction highlighted the Senator’s knowledge of blockchain technology and digital assets.
Our regulatory leaders consistently demonstrate their deep understanding of blockchain to us.
Crypto influencers made the memorable moments chart. While these folks provided too many to count, CroissantEth highlighted the moment the “Crypto Bitlord” torched his apartment after allegedly losing over $350,000.
However, Ben “BitBoy” Armstrong probably takes the award as one of the most controversial. The crypto influencer promotes himself as a “champion of the people”. However, there have been allegations about Armstrong using his audience to his advantage.
In the following video, Armstrong denies these allegations and reiterates his alleged motivations for participating in the industry:
CroissantEth highlighted many other memorable moments worth checking out. Whatever 2023 brings for the cryptocurrency industry, one thing seems certain, this sector will remain one of the most innovative and entertaining in the world for the foreseeable future.
