What better way to start the holiday season than with a goofy yellow?
Set in the 1920s, the Sopris Theater production is a play within a play, with a comical and chaotic opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society’s latest production, ‘The Murder at Haversham Manor’ , where things quickly go from bad to disaster.
“The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong” by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields will be performed by the Sopris Theater Company at Colorado Mountain College-Spring Valley.
Crime has everything you never wanted in a show: an unconscious protagonist, a corpse who can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything, including their own lines, according to a press release from the company.
Combining Monty Python comedy with an element of Sherlock Holmes, the Olivier Award-winning comedy follows the accident-prone actors as they stumble towards the curtain.
The play comes from the British theater company Mischief and is directed locally by Brad Moore. Cast members include Joshua Adamson, Michael Banks, Delven Bourne, JD Edmonds, Bostyn Elswick, Scott Elmore, Wyatt Tulk and Julia Whalen.
The show runs for just over an hour with no intermission and has haze/fog effects and simulated gunfire. Post-show conversations with the cast will take place on November 20, 26 and December 2.
“The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong” will also be performed live at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen on January 27 and 28, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
