CBS Sports Screenings SEC Gators vs. Vanderbilt

CBS Sports has released their weekly SEC game projections, with Barrett Sallee projecting a comfortable win for the visiting Gators against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Florida steadily improved on the field in Billy Napier’s first year as head coach. The performances of the first half of the season showed the potential of this team. Their inconsistency, however, cost them multiple games.

Since the match against Georgia, things have changed. Offensively, the Alligators dialed in their rushing attack. Defensively, the pass rush was revitalized following the ejection of Brenton Cox Jr. and Patrick Toney’s unit reduced coverage errors, disallowing an offensive touchdown for six straight quarters.

Vanderbilt is having his best season since Derek Mason led the Commodores to a bowl game in 2018. Clark Lea has revitalized his alma mater and has Vandy up 4-6. Last week, they beat Kentucky to snap a 28-game SEC losing streak, dating back to 2019. They still have Florida and Tennessee lined up, both of which will be played at home.

CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee had this to say during Saturday’s match preview:

The Gators are on a two-game winning streak and are coming off a commanding victory over South Carolina, while Vanderbilt earned the first conference win of the Clark Lea era — and the program’s first since 2019 — over Kentucky last weekend. That’s great for Lea and the Commodores, but they don’t have the kind of roster that can stand with Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson. Head coach Billy Napier will build an early lead, then work on Richardson’s passing game in the second half and run away with it.

Sallee has a lot of confidence in the Florida roster. All season, the Gators were beaten for lack of depth and experience. With most of the season behind them young players, that is no longer the case. The last two and a half games have proven that the Gators can be with the best. The difference in talent between Florida and Vanderbilt will be on full display on Saturday.

This game will serve as the last SEC game of the year for the Gators. Kickoff is scheduled for noon EST and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
