Ellie Bamber is clearly ready for the holiday season. Last night, the actress attended a special London screening of her new Disney+ show Willowwhere she embraced all the sparkles in a silver sequin mini dress by Prada.
Pairing the dress with a pair of statement pop socks, a handbag and black Prada sandals (and lots of diamonds), Bamber looked impossibly chic and provided us with plenty of partywear inspiration as December approaches.
We had the chance to catch up with Bamber as she prepped for the big night, where she chatted about what led her and stylist Aimée Croysdill to the sparkly gown, while also opening up about her fashion obsession and her latest style icon.
What’s the inspiration behind your outfit tonight – and can you tell us about the look?
Well, I’m wearing a very sparkly Prada dress with a gorgeous black bag and sandals – and we’ve added some pop socks for some fun, and some really cool diamonds to go with it. The inspiration was definitely Willowwhich is so full of magic – and I mean what could be better than lots of sparkles.
Does the project you’re working on often have an impact on what you choose to wear?
Yes, always. I think it’s really important to mention the show or movie I’m promoting on the red carpet – it’s something my stylist Aimée and I are always aware of. And she’s so amazing about it.
How involved are you in the styling process?
I’m honestly so obsessed with fashion, so it’s something that really excites me. I like to be very involved. We have a group chat, and we share a lot of the inspiration and ideas we have for a particular event, and honestly, she’s wonderful to work with.
What type of clothing makes you feel more confident about yourself?
I think it’s just that feeling when you wear something – it could be anything. Maybe sometimes it’s a pantsuit that I’m really comfortable in, but then another time it’s a dress. It totally depends on the event, but I feel more comfortable when I’m wearing something and it really feels like me, and if it’s something I’m really attracted to. But that definitely changes all the time.
How has your style evolved over the years?
I think living in London has given me a rather minimalist approach to dressing: I like colours, but often find myself in rather muted and minimalist tones. When it comes to everyday, I’m definitely influenced by streetwear, with only a few designer pieces. My brother has always been very fashionable, so he’s always been a real inspiration to me. He has this wealth of knowledge and so I always ask him what he thinks. And then I have a lot of friends who work for fashion brands or design, and they really inspire me. I think they’ve really helped my style evolve over the years.
How did your confidence develop on the red carpet?
I still find it all really shocking and get so nervous before stepping on the red carpet. I think once you learn to pick things that you’re really comfortable with, that make you feel good, then it gets a little bit easier. And then I’ve also adopted all kinds of little rituals that I used to do before: great people around, a glass of something, good music, and then I feel more relaxed.
What has been your most memorable fashion moment in recent years?
Oh wow, well you know what, I have some really exciting looks coming up that I can’t wait to wear. I’m going to Los Angeles soon to do more promotion Willow and we’ve picked out some great stuff, so I’m looking forward to it. But looking back, I’d say one of my favorite looks recently was this cream Magda Butrym dress I wore — I loved it. And then I wore this amazing floral dress from Chanel to the Fashion Awards which I absolutely adored. I will always remember it.
Is there anyone whose style you have always admired?
Honestly, I’ll say my brother again – he always looks great. But within the industry, I love the way Tilda Swinton dresses – she’s got a great style. She’s always herself, but she’s always experimenting, which I love.
Fashion has a reputation for being frivolous, but why does it matter what we wear?
Fashion influences how you feel and how you go about your day. What you wear can change your mood and that’s really important. If you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing, it shows, and I think you can also use it to express your emotions and creativity, so there’s nothing frivolous about it.
‘Willow’ has been streaming on Disney+ since November 30th. Ellie wears a dress by Prada, socks by Falke, jewelry by Chopard, styling by Aimée Croysdill, makeup by Neil Young, hair by Bjorn Krischker and nails by Jada Elize Lorentz.
