High-performance inspection becomes faster with Mycronic’s Iris 3D AOI Vision technology

Mycronic, the leading global provider of flexible PCB assembly solutions, is releasing its next-generation vision technology for automated 3D optical inspection. Part of the latest MYPro I Series 3D AOI, Iris 3D vision technology is designed to capture the industry’s highest quality images at speeds up to thirty percent faster than previous inspection systems, while providing even higher resolution.

Designed for busy working times

Takt times, the rate at which manufacturers must complete a product to meet customer demand, continue to accelerate across advanced industries such as automotive and industrial electronics manufacturing. However, as components get smaller and assemblies increase in complexity, the speed and accuracy of electronics inspection is often a limiting factor. The new Iris vision technology was developed specifically to overcome these challenges.

Accelerate high-performance inspection

Thanks to a new generation of laser scanners, image sensors and computer systems, Iris technology allows manufacturers to improve test coverage by capturing the highest resolution images in the industry at speeds up to thirty percent faster than previous technologies.

Up to 30% faster scan speed, double the pixels

“Many of the products our customers assemble are mission critical, such as in automotive control systems,” says Alexia Vey, Product Manager at Mycronic. “This means that the glitches are simply unacceptable despite claims for faster throughput. So, we have to constantly push the envelope to enable faster takt times, higher first pass throughput, and minimal false calls. Our new Iris 3D vision takes a “no compromise” approach to both accuracy and cycle time. Not only does it deliver up to 30% faster scan speeds throughout the entire inspection cycle, including image capture and processing, but it handles almost twice as many pixels, resulting in even higher resolution.”

Developed together with leading manufacturers

Iris represents an entirely new generation of AOI 3D vision technology, combining a range of state-of-the-art scan head optics, lasers and illumination systems to meet the needs of leading electronics manufacturers. “Our goal,” says Clemens Jargon, Senior VP High Flex, “is to continue our successful partnership with EMS and tier-one OEMs in high-reliability industries such as automotive, medical, aeronautical, and industrial electronics to develop new ways to Simultaneously improve productivity and efficiency. Iris enables these challenging production processes to be improved today, giving manufacturers a competitive advantage for the future.”

Iris 3D AOI vision technology is available to order on the new MYPro I Series 3D AOI systems. It is also available as a retrofit kit for existing K-series 2D AOIs that need an upgrade to 3D, as well as K-series 3D AOIs that require increased processing speed.
