Loud North Carolina Crypto Miner Forces Residents to Relocate (Report)

Residents of Murphy, North Carolina have complained that a cryptocurrency miner located in the area is causing “crazy” noise and negatively impacting the power grid.

Therefore, some people decided to leave the city and settle in another place.

“Looks like you’re behind a jet”

The crypto miner installed by San Francisco-based firm PrimeBlock appears to be a major problem for some of the 1,600 residents of Murphy, North Carolina. In a recent interviewresident Mike Lugiewicz said he will be moving due to unbearable noise from the facility.

“This morning it’s running at about 85 decibels. It rings and it feels like you’re behind a jet sitting on the tarmac, and that jet never takes off, or imagine you’re inside Niagara Falls and you can’t get rid of the noise like your house is the dead center of the Niagara Falls,” he said.

Other than that, the miner damaged the home electricity grid. Lugiewicz said the community was left without electricity over the Christmas holidays when temperatures dropped to three degrees Celsius. Despite the citywide blackout, the facility still functioned:

“As we sit in the dark, I can look out my window, and I could see that the cryptocurrency mine was powered, and I think it’s a little offensive for the power companies to cut off our power, but leave the cryptocurrency mines running and functioning.

While Lugiewicz has already made up his mind to move elsewhere, many locals are older folks who lack this ability. He expressed hope that authorities would take the necessary steps to stop the “crazy” noise and restore the well-being of Murphy’s residents:

“My fight is more for my friends and neighbors. We had a neighbor up on the mountain, and her house looks like it’s about to shake to pieces. It’s so loud up there.

Cryptocurrency mining may also have benefits

Despite numerous claims that cryptocurrency mining harms the environment and consumes a lot of energy, the process could have a positive impact if used correctly.
