- Insider spoke to Drew and Jonathan Scott about their favorite guest stars on ‘Celebrity IOU.’
- They have had amazing experiences with Brad Pitt, Melissa McCarthy and Wilmer Valderrama.
The Property Brothers spoke to Insider about their favorite Hollywood stars they’ve worked with on ‘Celebrity IOU.’
Insider spoke to Drew and Jonathan Scott ahead of the series’ first season, in which celebrities give home makeovers to important people in their lives. The third season features celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Cindy Crawford, Drew Barrymore and the late Leslie Jordan.
Ahead of the show’s first season, Insider asked the Scotts to reflect on the celebrities they’ve had the most fun working with.
Both Scotts told Insider that picking a favorite star was tough.
“You have Brad Pitt who has not only been a blast, but he’s also very competitive,” Jonathan said of the actor, who appeared in the show’s series premiere. “He had to try to outdo us.”
“But then seeing him talk to every crew member and remembering their name every time he came back, he remembered every person he talked to and what they talked about,” he said of why he really enjoyed working with Pitt.
Jonathan also said that Melissa McCarthy made every day on set fun.
“We almost finished the project because we were laughing so hard the whole time,” she said of working with McCarthy.
Drew agrees with Jonathan that it’s hard to pick just one star “because there’s something fun and different about every single project.”
But he went on to say that he was particularly touched by Wilmer Valderrama’s “Celebrity IOU” episode, as the actor had been renovating a house for his best friend of over 20 years. During the course of the makeover, Drew said he and Jonathan grew closer not only to Valderrama and his friend Tadao, but also to Tadao’s family.
“When you start to feel like you’re family with some of these celebrities and people that they’re giving back to, it really becomes a heartwarming story,” she said.
Neither Drew nor Jonathan immediately said that Zooey Deschanel was their favorite ‘Celebrity IOU’ guest star, which may come as a surprise to some because Jonathan and Deschanel have been dating since 2019.
Deschanel appeared on ‘Celebrity IOU’ in December 2020 to give her lifelong friend Sarah a makeover.
But Jonathan went on to tell Insider that Zooey was “clearly a great partner in the revamp” due to her experience working with him outside of the show.
“We’ve been doing our renovation for two and a half years,” he said. “Unlike most people who get divorced during a renovation or get into a big marital argument, we had an absolute blast. It has exquisite taste and we divide and conquer all.”
New episodes of ‘Celebrity IOU’ air on HGTV and Discovery+ Mondays.
